Extensions

Extensions for Afro hairstyles are all types of hair extensions for rasta hairstyles, dreadslocks, cornrows or open / invisible braids.
Braids and curls are a woven from the hairline with a special technique and enclose and protect the natural hair. The color of the artificial hair can be individually adapted to the natural hair color or combined with another color, so the hair becomes more lively.
With special hand techniques the extensions are woven into the hair strand by strand. The treatment can take up to 3 hours depending on hair volume and hair length.

Open Braids

Open Braids are basically short-micro braids, which are not braided down until the end of your hair. The remainder, consisting of synthetic or human hair, is left open.
This hairstyle is like a hair extension. If you look closely you can see the fine braids at the hairline. A variation of the so-called open braids are invisible braids.
Invisible braids are extremely finely woven open braids. Open Braids are suitable mainly for shorter hair of about 5 inches.

Cornrows

In this hairstyle, the hair is braided as close as possible to the scalp.
With the classic cornrow hairstyle, the hair is braided in precise, straight rows along the scalp from the forehead to the neck. Over time, however, very imaginative patterns have been developed that go far beyond the simple, straight cornrows.
Cornrows usually last for 1 to 2 months. Since hair grows on average 1 cm per month, the hairstyle at some time no longer looks "properly" fromed. Cornrows can be braided without synthetic hair, but this reduces the gestation period. Normally, therefore, synthetic hair is braided into the own hair from the hairline to at least 1 to 2 cm beyond the natural hair length.

The braids can also be extended to the waist through the "synthetic hair trick". The ends of the braids which are only made of synthetic hair are then thermally sealed. The ideal hair length for cornrows are 10 cm and more. The ends of the braids can be decorated with beads.
Cornrows are often combined with dreadlocks. Cornrows are worn by both men and women. Depending on the pattern, hair length and number of braids cornrows may take between ½ and 3 hours. Patterns and characters can also be woven into the hair. Or even colored lines and symbols. |
Rasta

In principle rasta are nothing else than many fine braids. Rasta are almost always braided with synthetic hair from the hairline to at least 1-2 cm beyond the natural hair length. Through the "synthetic hair trick" the braids can also be extended to the waist. The ends of the braids which only consist of synthetic hair are thermally sealed. They can also be decorated with beads.
The patterns into which the hair is divided plays a large role with rasta. The patterns may be small squares, diamonds, triangles or circles. Rasta braids with synthetic hair can be worn 3-5 months. The finer the braids, the longer you can wear them. The limit is usually 5 months.
After 3 months you should re-braid the rasta along the hairline. The time needed for braiding the rasta depends very much on the number of braids and how long they should be.

Relaxing

"Relaxing" means turning frizzy or Afro hair into soft wavy hair or even completely flattening it.
Depending on the type of hair "relaxers", which are hair straightening products, are needed. The hair is smoothed by the application of these "relaxers." It is advisable to let an expert do the hair relaxing. If the relaxer is too strong, the hair can be damaged. If the relaxer is too weak, the desired degree of smoothing is not reached.
In the first application, the "relaxer" is applied into the whole hair. However, with any additional applications the "relaxer" should only be applied to the hairline as otherwise the hair will break if applied to the whole hair again. A complete application should only be done once the whole hair is frizzy again.

Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks are actually matted hair. This hairstyle became popular through the legendary reggae singer Bob Marley. The classy version, called Silky Dreads, are simply wrapped rasta plaits with synthetic hair. They are shiny and look more "noble" than the matted natural dreadlocks. Dreadlocks grow best in curly hair, but can also grown in straight hair by using strong back-combing and a few other tricks.
Dreadlocks need a few months or even years until they are "mature". The smoother the hair, the longer the process. Real dreadlocks are a "permanent": one can only get rid of them by cutting off the matted hair. Silky dreadlocks, however, can be removed after 3 to 4 months without any problems.
